Gallery-goers in Mitchell Shire can now appreciate art closer to home, with artists welcomed to display their artworks at a popular local business for free.
Presently, around eight works by photographer David Corke are on show at Kilmore Picture Framers.
Located at 44a Victoria Parade in Kilmore, all items are for sale, and the exhibition is an excellent opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts.
Mr Corke is 94-years-old, and lives with his artist and wife Val in Broadford. Their studio is surrounded by native bush, and they are each inspired by wildlife that Mr Corke noted often appears in his photographs.
Over the years, Mr Corke has worked as a freelance photographer, director, and writer of educational films aimed at schools, with subjects including biology, geography, wildlife, art, and anthropology.
Now, as he refers to it, he is ‘in active retirement’, and has returned to his earlier interests but with a twist.
“As an artist, I don’t feel the need to capture excessive details in a picture. I can paint with pixels, allowing me to focus on the subject or the composition,” he said.
“I’m fascinated by what could be termed ‘photo impersonalism’ or ‘photo art’, even though many people claim, ‘That’s not a photograph!’. But what exactly is a photograph?”.
The exhibition finishes on Friday, December 20.
