EVENTS have been held and planned for National Reconciliation Week across the area.

The City of Whittlesea marked National Sorry Day with a heart-felt ceremony remembering the Stolen Generations and honouring the strengths and resilience of First Peoples.

The event was held at the Civic Centre in South Morang last Tuesday which started with a Welcome to Country and a smoking ceremony led by Wurundjeri Elder Aunty Annette Xiberras.

The ceremony was held in front of hundreds of attendees and featured guest speaker Aboriginal Victorian Uncle Charles Pakana who is the founder of Victorian Aboriginal News.

The Mitchell Shire Council is also holding a National Reconciliation Week Morning Tea which is available today from 11am until 12:30pm.

The Tea will be held in Beveridge at the Greater Beveridge Community Centre. Thalia Tweedie will also be offering traditional Ochre Face painting to the community.
