A comprehensive plan to help residents, businesses, and visitors travel around the municipality over the next decade was endorsed at the last City of Whittlesea Council meeting.

The Integrated Transport Plan 2024-2034 will serve as a framework to address current and future transport needs, with actions that aim to increase walking and cycling among the community, advocate for better and safer public transport, improve road safety, as well as support efficient freight movements and accessible parking for mobility needs.

City of Whittlesea Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson shared her enthusiasm for the plan’s potential impact on the community.

“The endorsement of the Integrated Transport Plan marks a significant milestone,” she said.

“This plan reflects our commitment to creating a more accessible and sustainable transport network that meets the diverse needs of our growing community. It’s an exciting step forward in making the City of Whittlesea a place where everyone can move around with ease and confidence.”

Community consultation gave insights into the key challenges and opportunities regarding transport across the municipality – highlighting issues such as public transport availability, traffic congestion, and the need for improved walking and cycling infrastructure.

The plan outlines short, medium, and long-term actions, including continued advocacy for the Wollert Rail extension.

It also proposes the development of transport outcomes that are safe, reliable and environmentally friendly, including a new Road Safety Plan, advocating for more frequent bus services, and supporting delivery of the Electric Vehicle Transition Plan.

“We thank everyone who provided valuable insights that helped inform this plan and we look forward to working with the community to shape an inclusive transport system that supports a vibrant, connected, and sustainable future for all,” Ms Wilson said.
