The Salvation Army is celebrating nearly 60 years of fundraising for its Red Shield Appeal, and 140 years of walking alongside Australians during and after natural disasters, pandemics, family violence, and mental health crises.
With cost-of-living soaring, the Broadford and Seymour branches have reported a 150 per cent increase in emergency relief distribution, and Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland is concerned.
“The cost of groceries is astronomical and rising at a concerning rate, and the reality is that people are having to choose between feeding their families or powering their homes, and that is a decision nobody should have to make,” she said.
“Our wonderful community organisations and volunteers, like those at the Salvation Army, are working overtime to fill that void and provide food relief as more and more Victorians struggle to make ends meet.”
In response to the cost-of-living crisis, the Salvation Army have launched a digital door-knock appeal to raise funds for the charity, an innovative concept to compliment traditional fundraising methods.
Philanthropic types can choose to host an event, register a sleep-out, create a personal challenge, or even create their own method to fundraise anytime, anywhere.
