KILMORE had a successful day in the Northern Football Netball League women’s competition, while Wallan fell desperately short.

In division two, Kilmore put together a significant 110-point win, keeping Lower Plenty scoreless and booting 16 goals in a significant percentage booster.

The Blues got things started 44 seconds into the game through Chiara Nardo, and went on with the job from there – kicking six goals in the first quarter to open up a 40-point lead.

It was all Nardo and Emma Pyle throughout the day, with both players combining for nine goals, with Nardo having three by the end of the second quarter, as did Pyle as the Blues led 67-0 at the main break.

Pyle added two more goals in the third quarter to make it five for the afternoon, as the Blues added four more goals in the third term to lead by 94 points at the final change.

Two more goals in the last quarter ensured the Blues piled on the pain and eventually won 16.14 (110) to 0.0 (0).

Pyle’s five goals earned her best-on-ground honours, while Tori Brooks, Sacchi Rose-Grigg, Sienna Shinners, Luka Kennedy and Ellen Kubeil were also named in the best.

Wallan made a late charge at Greenhill Reserve, but fell four points short against Diamond Creek Women’s in division three.

It was difficult going in the first quarter for both teams trying to get scoring shots on the board, with scores deadlocked at the end of the first change at 1-1.

Diamond Creek got the first significant score of the day, while Wallan was still trying to get its game together, trailing 2-9 at half time.

Wallan finally got on the board at the start of the third quarter, with Isabel Stevens kicking the Magpies’ first goal of the day to give them an interest in the game. But it was still Diamond Creek leading 11-8 at the last change.

Diamond Creek delivered what seemed to be a hammer blow at the start of the last quarter, kicking its second goal of the day, and despite a late goal to Phoebe White, the Creekers held on, winning by four points, 2.7 (19) to 2.3 (15).

Gabrielle Daoud was named Wallan’s best, while Toni Gussenhoven, Jessica Hort, Kelly Lennox, White and Stevens were also named in the best.
