The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) will be installing interim traffic lights on Lithgow Street in Beveridge to improve road safety and traffic management.

The signals will be placed at the intersection of Lithgow Street and the Old Hume Highway/Hume Freeway on-ramp.

The works were scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 12, subject to the contractor’s program of works. Traffic management will be in effect throughout the duration of the works, with delays expected.

DTP have carried out investigations to optimise the signal phasing during peak demand and will monitor the operation of the lights after installation to make any improvements. The amount of time for the interim traffic lights to change can’t be done remotely to adapt to traffic volumes. Any changes to the timing will need to be carried out on site.

These traffic signals are an interim measure as DTP, Stockland Developers, and Mitchell Shire Council work toward permanent solutions to improve traffic flow and safety.

Meantime, in Wallan, drainage works have begun on the Darraweit Road upgrade, with preparations for a new retaining wall starting.

The $2.7 million project is delivering a significant upgrade to the section of Darraweit Road between Acacia Way and Roulston Way. Works include underground drainage, kerbing and reconstruction of the road pavement to improve safety and durability for local residents, businesses and visitors.

The upgrade is part of the Australian Government’s $11 million commitment to the Macedon and Mitchell Shire Roads project. A combined $5.5 million is being provided for the Darraweit Road and Wellington Street upgrades, with Mitchell Shire Council contributing an additional $200,000.

Works began in April and are expected to be completed by October 2025, weather permitting.

Drainage works will continue throughout July. Construction of the retaining wall will also commence this month.
