A WEEKEND of wickets dominated affairs in the opening round of the Seymour District Cricket Association.
With a Twenty20 format, good bowling was always going to be of importance, and so it would prove as no team made above 90 runs in A grade competition.
Lachlan Drummond was the difference maker for Seymour in its four-wicket victory over Puckapunyal at Chittick Park.
Chasing 85, Seymour was in trouble at 4/30, but Drummond got through the early overs to ensure he would be a key factor for Seymour at the end, scoring 57 to ensure Seymour finished on 6/86 off 16.2 overs.
Batting and bowling numbers were unavailable for Puckapunyal at the time of production.
Pyalong also took a victory to start its campaign on the right note, taking a win in the final over against Alexandra.
Pyalong restricted Alexandra to 7/75 off its 20 overs, but Pyalong only just did enough to score a win with two balls and three wickets to spare. Batting numbers were unavailable for Pyalong at the time of production.
Yea also took victory in A grade, chasing down Avenel’s 75 with five overs to spare.
In B grade, Puckapunyal had an easy win over Seymour, winning by 10 wickets.
Seymour’s batters could not get runs off the ground, scoring 8/54 off its 20 overs, before Puckapunyal made mince meat of the total in just 12 overs, scoring 57 without loss.
Pyalong couldn’t quite get the result it desired against Alexandra, losing by seven wickets.
Some late hitting from Daniel Sowden, who finished unbeaten on 31, helped Pyalong to 8/89, before Alexandra controlled the pace throughout its innings, taking 16.5 overs to chase down the target and finishing on 3/93.
Pyalong host Yea in its first home game of the season next week, with Puckapunyal hosting Alexandra, and Tallarook taking on Seymour in the second of the competition’s Twenty20 matches.
