Division 2 Men almost had back-to-back wins at the weekend in round 15.
The first game against Collingwood was a strong team effort from Wallan, with excellent offence and secure shots – making it the second highest scoring game for the year, after hitting triple digits against the same side in round five.
Wallan, who outscored Collingwood in each quarter, was making every basket count, concluding the away game with an 86-97 win.
Wallan’s Arcaim Lallemandhit scored 32 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists, while Dominic Bruno produced 34 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
Coach Travis Heal said the side had been working hard to improve.
“It was more because of the quality shots and then defensively we did a really good job,” he said.
The second match at home was heading towards a win until Melton creeped in with the 86-92 win.
Six points behind Melton’s victory, Heal said the side were right in the game, with only a couple of missed shots and fouls.
“[Melton], they hit some shots, we probably missed more than what we missed the night before,” he said.
Wallan will host Mornington this Saturday night in round 16.
Chances of reaching finals are slim for Wallan, but Heal said the side could shape the finals.
“We can’t make the finals, but we keep saying we can shape finals, so we’re … going to do our best to be the fly in the ointment,” he said.
