Over the weekend Cricket teams in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association played in sunny, yet windy conditions for round five. It was the first of the seasons two-day matches.
In the McIntyre Cup Seconds fixture, Broadford drew Gisborne and they played day one of their match at the Broadford Harley Hammond Reserve.
Gisborne won the toss and elected to bat first. Broadford Captain Jake Martin chose James Hibbens to bowl first, with Jaideep Singh at the other end.
Quick fielding saw one of Gisborne’s first batters Kristian Savage out after six runs, but Kyan Bannon remained on the pitch until Kane Toohey caught his delivery midway through the 17th over and after just nine runs. In between James McKibbin and Jayben Bannan had a good running partnership, and each hit 5 fours. McKibbon was caught out by Kane Toohey after 23 runs, while Bannan made 35 big runs before he was caught out by Conner Stute early in the 29th over
Broadford’s James Hibbens bowled 14 overs while Blake Jones delivered just over 60 balls throughout the Gisborne innings. Bryce Flemming and Jaideep Singh also contributed to the blowing, and at 47.2 overs Gisborne had captain Aaron McLean remaining on the pitch, and not out, 10 for 133.
Broadford choose Connor Stute to bat first with Liam Withers at the other end, and unfortunately, Stute was caught by James McKibbon before getting a run. Withers was bowled out early in the fourth over after making nine runs. Next, Jake Martin stepped onto the pitch and he made four runs on just one ball before he was also bowled out by Taj Susnjara.
Kyle Hopkins and Samraat Sharma were still on the pitch when the Broadford innings ended with stumps called at 20 overs, and 4 out for 33. Play will be resumed at the Harley Hammond Reserve at 1.30pm on Saturday November 9.
