THERE were plenty of thrills and spills as the Australian Kart Championship took over Seymour’s Eastern Lions Kart Club across the weekend, with the best-of-the-best around Australia converging on the twisty track.
The action across Friday, Saturday and Sunday provided plenty of action and challenges, with heavy rain on Saturday causing chaos in a number of the heat races, while there were plenty of great young drivers desperate to prove themselves as potentially the next Oscar Piastri.
Some of Supercars’ best drivers across the country also took part – reigning Bathurst champion Garth Tander was at the event as a mentor, while current Brad Jones Racing driver Macauley Jones raced in the KZ2 class, finishing 9th in his event.
The main event was Sunday, with eight races on deck.
In the Cadet 9 championship, Max Gosling extended his championship lead courtesy of his win to open up Sunday’s proceedings.
The Cadet 12 race was one of the highlights of the day, with a four-way fight for the victory eventually going the way of Rossi Yau.
In the KA3 junior class, Archie Bristow took the win, while in the KA3 senior class, Zac Heard took victory.
The TaG 125 class was won in dominant fashion by Kiahn Burt, while in X30, Braxton Regan took the victory.
Toby Dvorak made it back-to-back wins in the Australian Karting Championships courtesy of his win in the KZ2 class, while in the final race of the day, Jack Larsen took victory thanks to a terrific move in the KA2 class.
The final round of the season will be held in Bolivar, in South Australia next month.
