HUGE news out of the Riddell District Football Netball League (RDFNL) as Jake Carlisle has been rubbed out of the grand final due to the fence-jumping incident that happened two weeks ago in their first semi-final win against Kyneton.
Carlisle was initially found guilty and handed a suspended penalty, leaving him free to play in the Magpies’ preliminary final win against Riddell.
“At the initial hearing, the Wallan player was found guilty of misconduct and a penalty was imposed. Following consideration of that penalty, the RDFNL exercised its right to appeal the Tribunal’s decision on the basis that the penalty did not, in the League’s view, appropriately reflect the seriousness of the conduct before the Tribunal,” the RDFNL said last week in a statement.
The league appealed the penalty, with the matter scheduled to return to the independent tribunal on Thursday.
At the Thursday sitting, the appeal was initially scheduled to take place, however, “the hearing was postponed following concerns raised by the independent tribunal regarding the timelines of the appeal notification and the conduct and approach of the Wallan FNC advocate during the proceedings,” the league said.
“The RDFNL is confident that it complied with the relevant requirements in relation to the lodging and notification of its appeal and that all parties were afforded appropriate procedural fairness and therefore the case will remain open.”
The former Essendon and St Kilda player was among the Magpies’ best as Wallan defeated the Bombers by 24 points to book a place in Saturday’s grand final against Diggers Rest.
The matter returned to the tribunal on Tuesday night, with Carlisle ultimately handed a two-match suspension, ruling him out of the RDFNL grand final.
There is no indication yet whether Wallan will contest the ban, but the Review will keep you updated.
