THE first round of the Gisborne District Cricket Association (GDCA) Johnstone Shield competition has been revealed, with those old rivals Kilmore and Broadford doing battle at the Kilmore Cricket Ground.
Only the first round has been unveiled at this stage, with more to come.
Broadford will be hoping to reverse the form which saw it relegated from the McIntyre Cup in 2025/26, while Kilmore will be hoping to take another step after making finals last year.
It is a revamped Johnstone Shield, with two new teams listed in the competition. Merrifield, based in Kalkallo, will take to the GDCA for the first time, as it hosts East Sunbury at Merrifield Recreation Reserve.
Riddell will also come into the competition, and it plays last season’s runners-up, Diggers Rest Bulla.
Eynesbury will host Sunbury Kangaroos, while Lancefield will have a bye in the opening round.
As ever, the second XI is reversed, and Harley Hammond Reserve will host cricket for the first time for the season on October 3 against Kilmore.
