AFTER a break during the school holidays, junior golf scholarship students started their term two coaching classes at Kilmore Golf Club on Saturday.
The students were awarded their scholarships at the beginning of the school year and completed their first six weeks of coaching during term one.
The program is an initiative of Golf Australia for the development of junior golfers.
Golf professional Nathan Roberts has run successful junior coaching and scholarship programs since 2021 at Kilmore Golf Club.
Lessons are on the practice fairway at the club, allowing juniors a safe space to learn. The practice fairway will be closed to members from 10.15am to 11.30am each Saturday for the next five weeks.
“Our junior scholarship program was a great success last year and has continued with a new group of students again this year,” Kilmore Golf Club president Bea Lay said.
“It grew out of our junior coaching program which we have been running since 2021.”
The current scholarship program consists of 24 sessions of coaching – six sessions each term.
In addition, scholarship holders receive junior membership at the club for the year, as well as a Golf Australia hat and shirt.
“Kilmore Golf Club is excited to provide juniors with an opportunity to develop their golf skills,” Ms Lay said.
“During and after their initial year, our club members encourage students by organising to play golf at other designated times and during school holidays. Students are also invited to join our ‘continuing golf’ program, to gain a handicap and to begin playing in our club competitions.
“Our juniors are encouraged to be involved with other golf events with other clubs in the district – for example, two of our 2022 scholarship holders, Natalia Tippet and Madeleine Ryan, will be attending the Victorian girls development camp in Tocumwal, organised by Dalhousie District Golf Association.”
