GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Cameron Pascoe (+1) has recorded one of the all-time great scores at Hidden Valley on Saturday in their stableford competition, finishing with seven birdies, going bogey-free. Unbelievable golf on a reasonably difficult course at this time of the year. It will go very close to being the score of the year.
What a fantastic set of weeks it was at BROADFORD Golf Club, which closed its club championships last weekend. Phil Morrow (4) was the best golfer in town for the three-week stroke competition, putting himself on the board as their Club Champion for 2026. On Saturday, the club switched the format up for Patchett Day, where it plays four-person ambrose, which was taken out by James McQuillan, Skip Bray, Morrow and Daniel Rebesco. At HIDDEN VALLEY, it’s been an eventful couple of weeks. On August 16, the Dalhousie District Golf Association named its men’s and ladies’ teams to represent the district at Country Week in Ballarat this September. Eight players were named in both teams, including Hidden Valley’s Gareth Edwards (captain), Trevor Lambert and our Golfer of the Week, Cameron Pascoe. Mr Edwards was blown away by the progression and growth of golf in the area, saying, “Young players who once carried bags on our fairways are now pushing experienced club champions all the way to the final cut. That is what growth looks like in a golf district, and it promises stronger squads for Dalhousie in the years ahead.”
KILMORE will also be represented in the team, as Sophie Banon and Jodie Perkins were good enough to be selected. Speaking of Banon, she had a reasonably good weekend, winning the red tee Stableford competition on Saturday, while Gordon Otene (17) took out the blue tee competition. Last week, Matthew Murray (11) won their competition on Saturday with a 35-pointer.
LANCEFIELD were forced to close the course to carts on the weekend due to the immense amount of rain they’ve received over the last week. It certainly didn’t stop Greg Parks (11) from having a great round and dominating the competition, though, as he scored 39 points, including two birdies and a four-over on the back nine to get the win by six Stableford points.
ROMSEY will be represented in the Dalhousie squad through Darlene Baker, which is fantastic for the club. On Saturday, Luke Lyons (7) won the competition by a point, thanks to his one-under-par score over the final five holes of the course. The week before, Simon Donovan (6) was the best on the day, taking out the Par competition with even.
