After a grim week of weather last week, the courses have been soft and hard to score on within the area, but it won’t stop us from writing this fortnight’s Covering The Fairways.

GOLFER OF THE WEEK

Our Golfer of the week belongs to Broadfords Jeffrey Ranger (13) who won the Monthly Medal at Broadford on Saturday. He had three birdies in a tough round to finish nett +2 and win in a countback against Ian Parry.

Skip Bray (11) was good enough to win BROADFORD’S Wednesday comp by three points, taking it out with a 38. Wet and windy conditions forced the locals to battle the cold for the day on Saturday. Jeffrey Ranger (13) won their Monthly Medal with +2 in the Stroke competition. His round had a scary finish with a double bogey on the last. He was tied with Ian Parry (11) who also finished +2.

Over in HIDDEN VALLEY, it was Lou Cristini (9) who won their second round of the Winter Cup with a 35 pointer. On Saturday, it all came down to the famous last hole for the president Matthew ‘Wally’ Walton (15), who needed a double bogey or better to win the comp. He was only two over to this point on the back nine, that included two birdies, but the pressure got to him, and he sunk two balls in the water to finish with a seven, coming second in the Stroke competition to David Mitchell (18) who parred the final two holes to finish -3.

Hidden Valley
GOOD LUCK: The famous 18th Hole at Hidden Valley Golf Club. A do or die to finish the round.

Some lower scores out of KILMORE, as Helen Dennett (20) and Stephen Maurer (13) won their respective Wednesday competitions, both scoring 29 points. Shaun Kool (16) smashed the rest of the competition in the Saturday Stableford competition, having a 36 pointer, winning by four points. Our consistency king Maurer came second on 32 points in the tough conditions.

LANCEFIELD held their Tuesday’s Legends Stroke competition which was won by Peter McGill (10) with a nett 74. Saturday’s competition was taken out by David Colson (34) who won by one shot over Simond Donovan (7), with a nett 75.

Unfortunately the wet weather caused ROMSEY to close its course for most of the week after a big spell of rain. On Saturday, the rain was determined to force the play to come to a halt, but the golfers pushed through in the Stroke comp. Craig Sandy (22) was the best on the day with a Nett 74. Daniel Wright (1) would’ve been dirty though, as he shot -1 on the last eight holes to finish +4 for the day and one shot worse in the comp.
