A FANTASTIC set of results and the first couple of rounds of a club championships have been summaried in this weeks ‘Covering the Fairways, alongside an article on page 2 about the Kilmore Golf Club and it’s future.
GOLFER OF THE WEEK: Chris Mazurek (7) wins our golfer of the week thanks to his impressive 39 point day which won a Hidden Valley stableford competition. He had back to back birdies on the last two holes to win the comp by three poitns. Great golf Chris!
HOLE IN ONE: John Paul Annal (JP) secured a hole in one on the ninth hole at Hidden Valley on Saturday. The shot over the water was pure and rolled straight into the centre of the cup!
COVERING THE FAIRWAYS
In BROADFORD Amanda Rees (37) had a ripping week both during the Wednesday stableford competition and the Saturday Club Championships. Rees had a 39 pointer during the week and then backed it up with a -2 in the clubbies, great golf. Jeffrey Ranger (13), almost due for a golfer of the week nomination, leads the B grade after having a nett 67 and Chris Allen (6) led the championships after round one, having a 78 off the stick. Round two concluded on Saturday, which was dominated by Phil Morrow (4) who now leads by a stroke coming into the final day.
HIDDEN VALLEY had a solid stableford winner a couple of Saturday’s ago with Golfer of the Week Chris Mazurek (7) scoring 39 points. One of the great finishes at the Valley, with back to back birdies on the final two holes to take out the competition, holding his nerve on the famous 18th hole. I played the course not too long ago, it’s in fair condition for this time of year and I thought the greens were rolling really well. Ken Baker (11) also had a 39 on Wednesdy last week. Anthony Verzantvoort (12) had a ripper at Hidden on Saturday, shooting a nett 69 which included a eagle on hole 11. Luke March (2) took their Monthly Medal thanks to his nett 71.
KILMORE is looking to upgrade it’s drainage and irregation within the next couple of years – the full story can be found on page 2. Mario Maddalena (13) is becoming one of the most consistant golfers in the area, already securing himself a golfer of the week, and now taking out back to back competitions throughout the fourtnight. He won the 4BBB competition with Rick Campbell a couple of Wednesday’s ago, then a week later took out the Wednesday Stableford with 35 points, fantastic golf Mario! Helen Dennett (21) had a good day on Saturday winning their mixed stableford with a 34 pointer.
Exciting times are ahead for LANCEFIELD as they’re getting their expressions of interest for their 100th year celerbation pro-am out in preparation for the event next year. Denis Davenport (9) won their Monthly Medal beating Chris Enright by a shot thanks to two bridies in three holes throughout his front nine. While on Saturday, Glen Holland (15) was the best for the day, with a Nett 73.
It must’ve been a fantastic day for the ROMSEY Golf Club who held a 4BBB stableford competition which came down to the wire. President Toby Clement was apart of the winning team with Stefan Moskaljuk thanks to a 42 point effort which narrowly beat Michael Squire and Stephen Wilkins thanks to a countback. On Saturday, the club held the WE Tom Semi Final which is again 4BBB and will set up a grand final with Daniel Wright/ Colin Thomas taking on Mitch Atlas / Mal Mottram.
