Applications are open for the Federal Government’s Cyber Awareness Support for Vulnerable Groups grant, which will provide successful applicants to a total funding pool of more than $9 million.
The grant program will seek to fund cyber literacy programs and services to help educate vulnerable groups on cyber safety within the community, allowing groups such as remote and regional communities, culturally and linguistically diverse groups, First Nations communities, young people, seniors, people with disability, and neurodiverse people to access the internet safely and securely.
Member for McEwen Rob Mitchell stated that the grants program would allow for a more connected and secure community.
“An essential part of our cyber security strategy and our goal of becoming a world leader by 2030 is improving the standard of cyber literacy and preparedness across our country. This grants program will mean the people most at risk within our society will be receiving targeted education tailored for them by their own community,” he said.
“The responsibility for making our country a harder cyber target sits across all elements of our society – government and business share significant responsibility, but every citizen can, and must, take basic steps to protect themselves, their communities, and our country. This program is another step towards our shared goal.”
The program will run alongside other Government initiatives such as a free cyber-health check program for small and medium sized businesses, a national cyber awareness campaign, and the creation of a mandatory cyber security standard for IoT devices as part of the 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy.
