Former Cats player Joel Selwood supported the Ivanhoe Seniors on Saturday against Kilmore, who made a good start in a low-scoring quarter, trailing by eight points.

Going into the second term, Kilmore continued trailing, but this time by three points with 7.8 (50) to 4.5 (29) on the scoreboard. However, the team managed two behinds and a goal from Ben Schraven halfway through to try and even out the score.

Early into the third, Ivanhoe kicked two back-to-back goals and five behinds. All told, seven behinds were recorded for Ivanhoe’s third term, and despite a captain’s goal, Kilmore went into the final term with a handicap of 9.15 (69) to 5.7 (37).

The lively final term saw Kilmore quickly score two back-to-back majors. It was Lucas Keyhole’s first and Bailey Taylor-Egan’s second. There were three promising point scorers for Kilmore, and four for Ivanhoe. Late in the final quarter, Liam Salter kicked a goal for Kimore and Ivanhoe quickly answered with one of their own.

Ivanhoe finished game winners by a thirty-three margin, 11.19 (85) to 7.10 (52).

Coach Paul Bailey commended the team’s efforts, acknowledging Ivanhoe’s sportsmanship.

“It was a fast-paced, physical game all day,” he said.

“A credit to Ivanhoe, they played their ground really well and Selwood was great on the day (as you’d expect from an ex-AFL player) and they deserved their win.

“We’ll reset over the break and prepare to come home really strongly, with consistency over the second half of season.”

Bailey Taylor-Egan scored two goals and Captain Mick Marrett, Bailey Derrick, Liam Salter, Ben Schraven, and Emmett Clark each kicked one.

Kilmore Reserves

The Kilmore Reserves played Ivanhoe on Saturday with Ryan Hall kicking their first goal in under a minute in. Ivanhoe managed just five points, and despite scoring three of them near the end of the quarter, Kilmore led at the siren 1.5 (11) to 3.9 (19).

In a low scoring second quarter, Kilmore kicked three behinds. Jake Hibbs-Hall steadied the ship with a goal just after the 15-minute mark. Going into the second term, despite a late behind from Ivanhoe, Kilmore remained with a firm lead, 2.7 (19) to 4.4 (28).

A busy third quarter saw the Reserves kick seven goals. Ben Maher and Tyson Barton kicked early in the opening, and Michael Fenech kicked near the siren. The team bragged eight goal kickers for the term and a handy lead, 5.9 (39) to 12.5 (39).

Deadly in the final term, Kilmore took the honours of kicking four goals to Ivanhoe’s none. Ryan Cumberland kicked his third goal for the day early in the final quarter and later Jake Hibbs-Hall’s kicked his own third. Kilmore won by 59 points 16.6 (102) to 5.13 (43).

Leading goal kickers for Kilmore were Jake Hibbs-Hall and Ryan Cumberland, with three each. Michael Fenech, Ryan McDonald, and Ryan Hall kicked two each and Christopher Jackson, Tyson Barton, Thomas McMillan, and Ben Maher all kicked one.
