City of Whittlesea will have access to $22 million in funding to deliver more connections to train and bus services across the region, resulting in a more accessible and interconnected service.
The funding comes from $180 million of investments from the State Government’s 2024/25 Budget and the Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution (GAIC) fund, which aims to deliver new and improved services across the state in response to the growing population.
As part of the project, a new Route 524 will also be introduced between Olivine and Kalkallo that links Donnybrook Station and the future Cloverton Town Centre, adding to the Route 501 express shuttle service introduced earlier this year which linked the Craigieburn and Donnybrook stations.
Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams stated the project would benefit the community, allowing a smoother and more seamless transportation system.
“We’re delivering better and more frequent public transport in our fastest growing suburbs, giving passengers more bus services and transport links with trains,” she said.
“These service improvements are another example of how Victoria’s Bus Plan is delivering a new bus network that makes travelling by bus easier and more convenient.”
The funding will also allow new walking and cycling paths to be built in the region, allowing families and individuals to exercise, travel, and opt for an environmentally friendly transportation method safely.
Member for Pakenham Emma Vulin praised the project’s balanced delivery of transport options.
“We’re giving our communities more transport options – whether that’s through better buses, or improved cycling and walking paths, linking them to key destinations,” she said.
