Two motorbike riders have been charged for alleged excessive speeding on Melbourne freeways.
The first incident was on the Metropolitan Ring Road in Thomastown about 4.40pm on April 14, and saw a motorbike rider reach alleged speeds of 298km/h.
Following an investigation, police from the North West Metro Achilles Taskforce executed a warrant in Meadow Heights on May 28 and arrested a 23-year-old man.
The man was then charged with reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, and drive in a manner dangerous.
He was bailed to appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on December 9.
Another man – who police allege reached speeds of 299km/h on Sunbury Road, Bulla, about 11.10pm on May 15 – was arrested by the taskforce last week.
Police will also allege he reached speeds of 240km/h while performing a mono in the Burnley Tunnel before 10pm on May 2.
Police seized a red BMW motorcycle during a search of his Sunbury home on May 29.
The 24-year-old man was charged with reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, and drive at a speed dangerous, and was also bailed to appear before Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on December 2.
North West Metro Achilles Taskforce Acting Senior Sergeant Sean Foley reminded the repercussions of dangerous driving.
“For those thinking they can speed and get away with it, know that it won’t be long until police are knocking on your door,” he said.
“This kind of high-risk behaviour is nothing to brag about. It could seriously injure or kill you, your friends, or an innocent road user.”
