THE KILMORE Art Society (KAS) is excited to welcome back acclaimed artist Nina Volk to lead a water colour workshop for local artists this weekend.

Earlier this month, Ben Winspear, a Melbourne-based painter with a portfolio of various subject matters, held a workshop at the KAS studio for oil painters.

Society member Jeannette Jain said: “It was quickly sold out. However, there will be more Ben Winspear workshops around May and June. Ben shares skills in oil painting, but he has said he is happy to help artists using any medium or materials.”

The workshops provide a welcoming space for local artists looking to deeply embrace their art and the cost of bringing talent to the region is heaviliy subsidied by the art society’s annual fundraising, specifically the Kilmore Art Expo.

“We are going to ask Nina to show us how to paint a waterfall. The reflections are something that challenge us,” Mrs Jain said.

Nina Volk became a full-time artist in 2021. Previously she obtained a bachelor’s degree in economics and civil engineering and artistically painting buildings using water has become a passion that has morphed into teaching. Volk has also become an expert in demonstrating the techniques that bring out the mood only the artist sees behind its subject.

Emily Street Seymour won Volk the best painting award and $1200 at the 2025 Kilmore Art Expo.

Mrs Jain said: “We [KAS members] are feverishly getting our art ready for this Kilmore Art Expo. Not everyone wins a big prize. The diversity of the works is what brings people joy and it gives artists the confidence to try their hand at art.”

To take advantage of a lively studio complete with new friends to make, refreshments and art supplies to use if you do not have your own, why not become a KAS member?

The studio is open each Wednesday and Saturday, from 10am to 3pm.

Mrs Jain added that Saturday is for working parents especially: “Come and use this time to relax and unwind, it’s free.”

An annual family membership is $55, and an individual membership is $35.

The Nina Volk workshop is selling out fast and bookings are essential. See the advertisement on this page and to reserve your space, phone Jeannette Jain on 0410 561 630.
