THE bottom of the table clash between Lancefield and Romsey entertained at Lancefield Park on the weekend, providing 38 goals in a beautiful day for football.
The Redbacks, coming off a solid performance against Kyneton, came out to kick eight goals in the first quarter including multiples from Jack Jedwab to kickstart his day.
Sam Wilson and Corey Pertzel were dominant around the stoppage, linking up together to send multiple entries forward for the Jedwab brothers down forward.
Dominating the Ruck, Nathan Hoy contributed to at least half a dozen centre clearances which led to repeated inside 50’s for the Redbacks, putting Lancefield’s defence under immense pressure.
Coming into quarter time, 12-50, the Tigers needed to settle in the second term with more possession of the footy in the centre and Reuben Schembri did his best to contribute.
Goals in the second term again came from everywhere, with Jedwab scoring another bundle of goals leaving him with six goals by half time, Nathan Rayment joining in on the fun as well as Corey Pertzel with a couple.
Half time saw the scores 27-88 and something sparked the Redbacks to push for more in coach Nathan Blair’s half time speech.
It was go time for the red and black, who had a clear aim of kicking it to Jedwab again and again, and although it was predictable, it was still unstoppable for the Tigers.
Ash Millane, Matt Burkett and Rayment all joined in on the fun, as the Redbacks managed to kick ten goals to one in the third.
Lancefield started to lose its heads with ethe runner giving away a 50 metre penalty, in an almost unheard-of penalty in local footy.
The final break saw a margin of 118 points, giving the Tigers nothing to fight for.
Lancefield came out to have their best quarter of the day in the last, kicking five goals to the pavilion end, but still conceded an additional four goals, leaving the total at 66-178.
Jedwab’s 14 goals secured him best on, alongside Pertzel, Burkett, Millane, Rayment and Wilson.
Lewis King, Walter King, Tully Fattore, Schembri, Aythyn Robotham and Jack Dalgleish were named in the best for the Tigers.
The close-town rivalry is starting to become as tight as Collingwood and Carlton, with Lancefield not beating the Redbacks in 10 years, dating back to 2016 where they won in a 57-66 clash.
The Redbacks secure a good win, moving themselves two spots up the ladder into eighth position, and Lancefield continue to sit two games clear on the bottom, behind Woodend.
In a positive note, the Tigers B-grade netball side won their top of the table clash, handing Romsey its first defeat of the season.
The A-grade netballers also won for Lancefield, meaning it now sits fourth on the ladder.
The reserves football also had a day out, thrashing Romsey by 141 points in a complete turn around from last year where the Redbacks featured in the grand final.
The Under 19.5s though suffered a grim defeat in an opposite game to the reserves, losing by 141 points, leaving the Tigers three games behind on the bottom of the ladder.
Romsey take on Melton Centrals at home next week, as Lancefield play in the battle of the Tigers against Kyneton.
