IN a terrific game, Kilmore fell just short of toppling ladder-leaders Ivanhoe in the Northern Football Netball League division two women’s competition.

It was a stand-alone game which proved to be well worth the admission as both teams had momentum at different times.

An even first quarter saw both teams kick one goal from three scoring shots, with the scores tied at eight apiece at the first change.

Ivanhoe kicked away in the second term, kicking three goals while rendering Kilmore scoreless, leaving the Blues with it all to do, trailing 8-27 at the main break.

The Blues needed the perfect start in the third quarter and they got it, kicking the first two goals of the term to close the gap to six points.

But just as the Blues looked like getting into the game, the Hoers had a response, kicking the final three goals of the term to restore a 27-point lead at the final change, 48-21.

Kilmore threw everything at the cause in the final term, kicking three goals, yet fell 11 points short, 6.3 (39) to 7.8 (50).

Ella Stewart, Alexis Knight, Jenaya Stewart, Brianna Matthews-Gunn, Chiara Nardo and Zahra Kelly were all named in the best in what was an excellent warm up for the finals series.

The Blues return to action this week as they host West Preston Lakeside at JJ Clancy on Sunday.
