SECOND half dominance was the key to the Wallan Panthers Men’s teams win on Saturday night in their bottom of the table clash against Collingwood.
A much-needed win for the Panthers who now move up the ladder for the first time in close to five weeks.
After a basically tied up first half, captain Lachlan Lombardo and Nathan Aikman burst out of the gate to pounce on the opposition draining three’s and dominating in the paint.
At the final break, the score was 67-54 and knowing the Panthers form, the margin wasn’t safe.
But a high scoring final term which saw the teams score 37 and 35 points each meant the Panthers would secure a much-needed win for the groups morale.
They now have the week off, while Collingwood have another chance at getting off the bottom as they play Melton who are also in the bottom three, leaving Wallan with a nervous wait for the final round.
For the women’s team, it was a thrashing before the men’s game at RB Robson Stadium on Saturday.
It was a typical Ranika Guyton dominance game, but also a well spread performance from majority of the team who featured four players with 15 points or more.
They defeated Coburg and took over in every term of the match to win the game by 38 points in a 93-55 contest.
They continue to sit third on the table, two wins behind second and play fourth placed Surfcoast Chargers next week in a game which could confirm a top three finish.
In the final round of the season, the week after, the Panthers play the second placed Blackburn team which will be a great test ahead of the post season.
