JUST three rounds remain for the Seymour District Cricket Association, with plenty of bowlers getting in on the act across the weekend.
In A grade, Seymour was too strong for Puckapunyal, winning by eight wickets.
Puckapunyal batted first, and as ever, it was Charles Davies who was leading the way, scoring 59 to keep Pucka in the game. However, the Pucka batters couldn’t keep up, and Seymour’s bowlers teamed up exceptionally to wear down Pucka.
Eventually, Pucka was bowled out for 105. Hugh Smith took 3/29 off eight overs, while Kharl Sison, Cameron Evans and Brodey Pointon chipped in with two wickets apiece.
Seymour didn’t need a second invitation to get the job done, with Brett Gordon’s 45 and Evans’ 34 helping the Mores do it easy, scoring 2/107 to win by eight wickets with 19 overs to spare.
James Voogt and Christopher Crabbe took the wickets for Puckapunyal.
Pyalong’s finals spot is in danger after a disastrous trip to Alexandra, losing by 65 runs.
Alexandra batted first, and it looked as though Pyalong was all over its batting lineup as the home team was rolled for 91.
Steven Mitchell, James Wilkins, Tyler Caddie and Mitchell Wittig took two wickets apiece.
However, Pyalong struggled even more on the pitch when it was its time to bat, and only Joseph Ryan’s 12 helped Pyalong as it was bowled out for 36 off 23 overs.
Elsewhere, Yea was too strong for Avenel, winning by seven wickets.
In B grade, Seymour defeated Puckapunyal by 35 runs.
Seymour batted first, and got itself out of trouble from being 3/16 through Damian Murphy’s 49 and late hitting from Doug France (18) and David Richardson (15) to finish on 6/144.
Peter Brennan was the best of the bowlers for Pucka, taking 2/24.
Brennan performed strongly with the bat as well, top-scoring with 30, while David Grundell added 21, but it wasn’t enough as Seymour bowled Pucka out for 109.
Christopher Kemp took 3/8, while Jack Glen’s 2/35 and France’s 2/4 helped finish the job off for the Mores.
Pyalong and Alexandra played a B grade game which was the exact opposite of its A grade counterparts, with Pyalong winning by a wicket in a high-scoring game.
Alexandra batted first, scoring 4/174. Anthony Pratt took 3/18 to lead the way for Pyalong.
From the top, Kane Webb helped set Pyalong up with 94, including 10 fours and three sixes, but it looked like it would count for nought when Pyalong was nine down with 12 runs still to get.
However, Dave Clark and Harry Hemphill had other ideas, scoring 16 for the final wicket to help get it done.
Elsewhere, Avenel was too strong for Yea, winning by 115 runs.
