THE City of Whittlesea is calling on residents to share their thoughts on a bold new plan to improve the health, accessibility and natural beauty of Edgars Creek.
At the June Council Meeting, councillors voted to place the Edgars Creek Corridor Landscape Improvement Plan on public exhibition, inviting community feedback on the draft vision for the 13-kilometre stretch of creek that flows from Wollert through Epping, Lalor and Thomastown.
The plan outlines a range of upgrades, including improved open spaces, expanded biodiversity with more trees and gardens, and infrastructure to encourage active lifestyles and social connection.
Divided into six precincts, the draft proposes actions such as planting native vegetation, building walking and cycling paths, and enhancing public access. It builds upon the existing Thomastown and Lalor Place Framework and aims to create a more connected and inclusive green corridor for the growing community.
Whittlesea Mayor Cr Martin Taylor said Edgars Creek was a much-loved natural asset.
“The Edgars Creek corridor is a special feature of our municipality and loved by our community,” Cr Taylor said.
“This draft plan provides a clear vision for how we can enhance its health and natural beauty.
Our plan will help restore and protect the creek, create safer access for everyone and improve our local environment.”
Residents can have their say by attending one of several community pop-up sessions to be held during the public exhibition period from 20 June to 18 July 2025. Feedback can also be submitted online through a short survey at engage.whittlesea.gov.au/edgarscreek-lip.
Cr Taylor encouraged all residents, community groups and organisations to get involved.
“I encourage residents, groups and organisations to view the draft plan and share their feedback,” he said.
