A DRAMATIC weekend of soccer saw Mitchell Rangers’ men come back from the brink to snatch a point away at La Trobe University.
It was a perfect start for Rangers on Saturday as William Mulvey put the opener in the back of the net after five minutes, but it was soon apparent that La Trobe was looking to perform strongly at home.
La Trobe found an equaliser in the 27th minute, before scoring again six minutes after the restart to sit 2-1 up.
In the 66th minute, La Trobe found a third to sit 3-1 up, but Mitchell Rangers weren’t done.
Instead, they won a penalty soon after the restart, which Mulvey calmly converted in the 69th minute, before finding new life in the 71st minute through Frank Talarico to level the game at 3-3.
The result takes Rangers off the foot of the table, moving into 11th on 11 points, ahead of a clash with Dynamo Melbourne this weekend at home on Saturday.
On Sunday, there was no luck for the Rangers’ women, losing 4-0 to FC Birrarung.
The hosts were up and about from the get-go, opening the scoring in the third minute, before adding to the lead in the 22nd and 38th minutes to lead 3-0 at the half, before adding another goal in the 77th minute to eventually take the win.
The result leaves Rangers still in ninth position on the ladder.
