JUNIOR football grand finals have been run and won across the last few weeks.
The Northern Football Netball League had its junior grand finals played on Sunday, August 30 in incredible conditions.
The Kilmore under 15s played Wallan at Diamond Creek for the under 15 division 2 premiership.
Kilmore got the jump, kicking three goals to one to lead 20-6 at the first change, but Wallan fought back in the second term, kicking two goals to one to trail 19-28 at the main break.
A terrific battle was had in the third quarter, with both teams kicking two goals, but Kilmore continued to lead, 44-33 at the final change.
In a high-scoring final term, Kilmore kicked seven goals to three to eventually end up 13.8 (86) to 8.6 (54) winners.
Cooper Winnell was named Kilmore’s best, while Xavier Ryan, Nate Morton, Lachlan Campbell, Sabian Bonacci and Jackson Cutler were also named in the best, while for Wallan, Ali Khoder, Ethan Butterworth, Brody Lynn, Ryder McPharlane, John Minah and Dayne Jeffery were all named in the best.
Kilmore fell short in the under 12 girls division 1 grand final, losing by 16 points to Montmorency.
The Blues kicked the opening goal of the game to lead at quarter time before Monty hit back to lead at half time by two points.
Both teams added a goal in the third term, and the margin remained at two points at the final change, before Montmorency kicked away in the final term to add the only two goals, and win 4.4 (28) to 2.0 (12).
Georja Sellner, Chanel Jowett, Katrina Marden, Vanessa Willis, Vivienne Bowshall-Tanner and Sadie Caruana were all named in the best.
Coming in to the grand final all the way from fourth place, the Kilmore under 18 girls put in a great effort in the grand final against Yarrambat.
The Bats dominated the first three quarters to lead by 28 points at the final change, but Kilmore gave them a fright in the final term as they dominated territory, kicking four goals to two in the final term to eventually fall by 13 points, 5.8 (38) to 8.3 (51).
No best players were named for Kilmore at the time of production.
Wallan enjoyed premiership success in the under 12 division 2 competition against Epping.
The Magpies faced a fierce challenge from Epping across the first three quarters, and trailed by three points at the final change, but pulled out a stunner in the last quarter to kick four goals to one, eventually winning the premiership, 6.7 (43) to 3.8 (26).
Wallan played off in the under 14 girls division 2 grand final against Epping, but despite giving a great effort in the first three quarters, trailing by only 12 points at the final change, the Pingers ran away with the game in the last quarter, eventually winning 9.8 (62) to 4.3 (27).
No best players were named for Wallan.
On August 23, the Goulburn Murray Juniors also had their grand finals.
In the under 14 division two competition, Wandong took on Shepparton United at Kings Park.
Despite being competitive throughout the day, Shepparton United extended the lead at every change to eventually win 8.9 (57) to 4.7 (31).
Tyler Horton, Fionn Whelan, Kobe Fogliaro, Declan Butterworth, Harvey King and Jacob Muscat were all named in the best for the Warriors.
The under 12 southern grand final was played between Seymour Lions and Broadford Roo’s, with the former coming out on top, 6.7 (43) to 4.0 (24).
Brock Inness, Oliver Liddell, Noah McCarthy, Blake Winnell, Oliver Skilling and Chester Cashill were all named in the best for the Lions, while Broadford had no best players named.
