DESPITE taking an early lead, Mitchell Rangers’ men’s were no match for Roxburgh Park United in round 11 of the State League 7 north-west competition.
The men in green got off to a perfect start, scoring the opening goal of the match at Broadford Secondary College through Frank Talarico in the fifth minute.
But despite getting the early impetus to push on, Rangers weren’t able to keep going, as instead, the goal jolted Roxburgh Park into action.
An immediate equaliser came just two minutes afterwards, leaving the game delicately poised at half-time at 1-1.
Roxburgh Park got off to a flyer in the second half, scoring quick goals to put the game away in the 52nd, 60th and 72nd minutes to ensure United would win 4-1.
A late fightback wasn’t quite enough for Rangers in the reserves, with Roxburgh Park winning 3-2.
The game looked over when United led 3-0 at the 71st minute, but goals from George Champ and Avtar Singh changed the game and made for a frantic finish.
However, Rangers couldn’t quite find the equaliser.
