The club held a street raffle leading up to Appeal with various prizes kindly donated by local traders of which we thank them very much.

A very special mention to Broadford Scout Group who assisted on Good Friday with town collections. Also thanks to Terry White Broadford for their support.

The weeks fundraising of $5537.00 was forward onto the Appeal. Again, a big thank-you to all for your on-going support toward the appeal

Vote Against Big Tech

Dear Editor,

You all know that the biggest threat to our livelihoods in the Mitchell Shire isn’t China, union corruption or even Trump, right? The only thing that can actually affect the dominance of the US economic system (and thus, our own) is the big tech bubble. Companies like Google, Meta (used to be known as Facebook), Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, NVIDIA and Tesla, hold an immensely disproportionate amount of wealth. The retirement funds of our elderly, our housing market, even our dollar, is all tied up in the valuations of the big US tech giants.

Anyone who knows anything about investing knows just how fragile that tech bubble is. It’s entirely held up by money from countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and as soon as they run out of oil (or, more morbidly, if Trump caves to war hawks like Rubio and Netanyahu and starts a war with Iran), they will no longer care about western money when the sovereignty of their nations are at risk. Any student of history should be able to tell you what happens in cases like this – the Great Depression of the 1930s springs to mind as an easy example (and guess what came next in the 1940s!).

I’m not some luddite, these tech companies have brought about amazing change – Google allows the middle and lower classes to access knowledge previously locked behind wealth, Tesla has made leaps and bounds in the transition toward electric cars, etc., but there is very little value those big 7 companies have actually created for society in the last decade.

If you’re confused on how this links to our election – just look at who is cosy to the big seven tech companies. Dutton’s best mate, Gina Rinehart, can’t stop ogling Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg. It’s easy to vote for short-term gain – who feels like they are on your sports team. But please, the peace and prosperity we have all known for so long is just as fragile as it was after WW2 ended. Do not shirk your responsibility to be informed and educated this election.

A tale of two Albos

Dear Editor,

Which Albanese do we need to listen to?

Albanese the comic, who tells us to buy Australian Made? I bought a suitcase from a vintage store that was made in Victoria. Does that count?

Or perhaps Albanese , China’s friend who wants us to buy subsidised solar panels and batteries made in China.

I was so pleased to see the Chinese warships that under this government we are helping to pay for.

If either the Teals, Greens or Labor get into power will their new theme song be ‘Make China Great Again?’
