The Kilmore Art Society (KAS) is inviting everyone to discover the joys of drawing, painting, and colouring with them at their art therapy classes.
Art therapy is helpful for stress, grief, depression, pain, illness, loneliness, and isolation, with artists discovering that through painting and pictures, they can express themselves in a mindful way.
KAS member Jeannette Jain said art in any medium is a wonderful way to develop free expression, and visual creativity can help you to understand yourself in a deeper way.
“It’s about expressing yourself, sharing experiences, free drawing, and there are no constraints. Be happy and have fun, there is no right or wrong way to make art,” she said.
Local artist Ian Hibburt discovered art therapy when he was finding ways to deal with personal trauma, and this inspired him to learn more about art therapy.
“I painted to get through a dark spot, and then I did a 12-month course during lockdown,” he said.
The sessions begin with painting and drawing, and to join in all you need to do is bring is an A4 visual art diary and some drawing pencils.
The first of five workshops commences this Friday, August 9, 10.00am-12.00pm.
