SEYMOUR featured in a narrow defeat on Saturday, conceding 10 second half goals to lose by eight points in a nailbiter.

Seymour dominated the first quarter, leaving the Shepparton Swans goalless at the first break.

Riley Mason opened the day, Jaron Murphy kicked an elite goal from the Boundary, and Rory Kennedy joined in on the fun, leaving the score at 20-4 at quarter time.

The Lions then kicked five of the next six score in the second quarter, all resulting in behinds which cost them later in the game.

Shepparton found the goals twice to put them back in it, before Mason kicked another to push the scores to 31-19 at half time.

An arm-wrestle in the third term swung the game back into the way of the Swans who got themselves back in it, kicking four goals to one in the first ten minutes of the term.

Mason kicked his third to even the scores to 44 apiece until Shepparton recorded the next nine of 10 scores, with only one goal in there to be leading by eight at the final break.

It seemed they were returning the favour to the Lions for the inaccurate kicking in the second term.

They could have led by close to 30 points by the final break if they had their kicking shoes on, but left Seymour with a chance.

In the final term, it seemed all over when the Swans kicked the first three goals to lead 50-76 half way through the term.

But Seymour would respond, again through Mason and others, who kicked five of the next six goals, to bring it to 15 points with not long to play.

Murphy kicked one late to lower the deficit to eight points, but it was too little, too late for the Lions who suffered a costly loss.

A win would have cemented the Lions a third spot lock in but now they could drop as far as eighth depending on other results next week.

Lachlan Giles, Mason, Nicholas Quigg, Tom Stapleton and Lewis Lubeck were named in the best and will need to be one better next week if they want to finish in the top three.

Luckily for the Lions, they play Tatura who sit dead last with zero wins for the year, which should mean they cement a third-place spot.

The reserves got a solid victory though, which means they’ll finish fifth on the ladder.

Jack Radford kicked another bag of five, also claimed best on and pushed his tally to 64 goals for the year, which is leading the league goalkicking.

The under 18s had a ripping win by 133 points and Sam Brown was dominant, kicking five goals.

In the netball, it was a tight tussle in the A grade, which resulted in a one goal loss for Seymour.

The loss now moves them to fifth on the ladder with one week to go, where a win would secure them finals, and a loss could kick them out.

The B grade had a 54-42 win, while the remainder of the teams lost their games.
