IT was a similar result to the first in the battle of the red and black featuring Riddells Creek and Romsey on Saturday with the Redbacks going down by 58 points.
Riddell opened the account for the day, kicking the first four goals in five minutes to the scoring end.
Young guns Jack Hammerling and Mike Gray were both involved in goals, leaving headaches for the Redbacks.
Romsey soon responded though, thanks to a goal for Sam Wilson and another soon after to pull the margin back to two goals.
In the second, it was Romsey’s turn with the wind, but it didn’t stop the Bombers from kicking the first two, including Gray’s third for the day.
A move to put former Redback Darcy Lockens into the midfield looked to pay dividends with multiple high speed run and clearances, until he ran into former teammate Marcus Tucker, who let him know about it afterwards.
Wilson and Jack Jedwab did all they could in the second for Romsey, both kicking one each and having multiple strong marks across the ground.
But Riddell were again too strong thanks to Mark Kovacevic and Nathan Hrovat who both hit the scoreboard.
Hrovat is coming off last weeks efforts where he had over 40 disposals and three goals to his name.
At the main break, the margin sat at 38 points but proved a good opportunity for the Riddells Creek and Romsey under 9’s team to play a small game of their own.
Riddell looked to put the foot down with the wind, kicking six goals within the first 10 minutes including more for Gray, Hrovat and Kovacevic.
Jedwab was kicking them from absolutely everywhere, adding another couple to his name for the Redbacks, but ultimately it wasn’t good enough to help close the margin, as Gray had his seventh for the day, and the Bombers pushed to 69 points at the final break.
Romsey showed positive signs in the last, kicking four goals to Riddells two, but the game unfortunately sums up most of the year for the Redbacks, losing by close to 10 goals, 23.8 (146) to 13.10 (88).
Corey Pertzel was ranked best on ground alongside Jedwab for the Redbacks, having 63 disposals and seven goals between them.
Hrovat was Riddells best, pushing his case for a league medal, having 41 disposals, nine clearances and two goals.
Romsey also went down in the reserves as they continue to struggle at the bottom of the ladder, but it was a positive result in the under 19’s who secured a four-goal victory.
In the netball, the Redbacks lost in the A-grade by two goals, pushing Riddell who only sit one game behind first placed on the ladder.
It was positive day for the B-grade though, who won and sit equal first looking to contend for a premiership.
At Lancefield, the Tigers had one of their better days on the footy field for the year, losing by 41 points to Melton Centrals.
Walter King again dominated for the Tigers, but couldn’t restrict Dylan McDonald from the Centrals, who had 50 disposals, eight clearances and two goals for the day.
Lancefield continue to sit three games clear at the bottom, while the Centrals sit seventh with six wins for the year so far.
The reserves secured another win for the Tigers though, which moves them to seventh, only percentage out of the top six with one game remaining in the season.
The A-grade netball dominated their game, sitting equal second with Wallan and Riddell looking to finish strong next week in a bid for the minor premiership.
Wallan played Kyneton at home, winning by 82 points in another thrashing at Greenhill Reserve.
Steven Boyall, Jake Carlisle, Benjamin Dessent, Riley Gilchrist, Shaun Stewart and Dion Hill were strong for the Magpies, but a quiet day from Lachlan Smart leaves him eight goals back in the goal kicking.
Smart has the chance to kick eight next week against one of the weaker sides in the competition while the leader Callum Moore has a bye.
It also presents an opportunity to secure the minor premiership for the Magpies, summing up a historic year for them.
If things go well in the netball, they could have the Seniors football, Reserves football, A-grade netball and under 19.5s netball teams all finishing first on the ladder.
