KILMORE will be hoping to bounce back as the Northern Football Netball League women’s finals get underway, with its qualifying final opponent, Fitzroy Stars, recording a 50-point victory on Saturday morning.
The Blues were blitzed in the opening quarter by the high-flying Stars outfit, who kicked five goals to one behind to take a 31-1 lead at the opening change.
The second quarter was a lot better from Kilmore, who scored the first goal of the term thanks to Jade Ventura, but it was still the Stars who won the quarter, leading 39-7 at the main break.
Any chance the Blues had of getting back into the game was swept away in the third quarter, with the Stars kicking three goals in seven minutes to make it a 52-point lead at the final change, leading 59-7.
Emma Pyle kicked the Blues’ second goal of the day early in the final quarter as the Blues did at least win the final quarter, but it was a 10.5 (65) to 2.3 (15) win the way of the Stars.
Alexis Knight, Luka Kennedy, Brielle Kinnear, Charmaine Matthews-Gunn, Nicole Bauce and Zahra Kelly were all named in the best for the Blues.
Kilmore will take on the Stars again on Sunday, this time on the wide expanses of La Trobe University’s Tony Sheehan Oval at 10am.
It will be a rematch of both the qualifying final and preliminary final from last season, in which the Stars took wins in both games.
