THE Mernda and Hurstbridge lines are set to benefit from more services announced by the State Government on Thursday.
The new services are part of an additional 3500 services, with more than 400 extra weekly train services starting from Sunday, August 23.
It means Mernda and Hurstbridge will receive eight extra Sunday morning services on both lines.
The new services, the State Government say, is due to the Metro Tunnel creating more capacity.
There will also be 25 more locally built X’Trapolis 2.0 trains built, backed by a $673.6 million investment, although it is currently unclear whether the trains, designed to replace the ageing Comeng units, will also eventually replace the X’Trapolis 100 trains on both lines.
Minister for Public Transport, Vicki Ward, said it was a good result for Victorians.
“More trains on the timetable means less time waiting on the platform and more time to enjoy your destination, whether it’s getting home, going to the footy, hanging out at the beach, or heading to work,” she said.
