IT was an unfortunate weekend for the Kilmore women’s side who played in the first week of the division two NFNL finals.
Kilmore took on the Fitzroy Stars after finishing third placed on the ladder, one spot behind the stars.
Out of pure coincidence, the Blues played them last week, in the final home and away match for the year, as well as last year in the finals where Fitzroy Stars won both games by a reasonable margin.
This time out at Bundoora, much was the same.
The Stars came out to kick 4.4 with the wind giving Kilmore something to respond to early in the second term.
But Kilmore pace was outmatched and totally outrun, leaving the Blues down 41-1 at half time.
Amina Keegan showed her class above most on the field, dominating forward of the ball leaving the Kilmore coaching staff with a major headache.
The third term was the highest scoring for the day and Rosie Wilson dominated the Blues throughout the middle of the ground, also kicking a couple herself and setting up a few more.
By three quarter time, the Blues had shifted mindset from winning the game to stop the bleeding.
It didn’t stop Fitzroy though, who kicked an additional six goals against a heavy wind to win by 126 points.
Zahra Kelly was named the best player on the ground for Kilmore alongside Alexis Knight, Grace Gerada, Chloe Brown, Ella Stewart and Tahlia Pyle.
Best on ground for the match was given to Amina Keegan, as she ended up with eight goals for the Stars, tallying her 69th goal of the season, 20 more than the next best.
Kilmore will now move on to next week, where their seasons fate is up to them against Darebin at La Trobe University’s Tony Sheehan Oval.
That will be a fascinating matchup, as the two teams went 1-1 throughout the season against each other, and both games ended up resulting in less than a goal the margin.
Fitzroy Stars will take on first placed Ivanhoe to secure the first spot in the grand final.
