The Wallan Panthers women’s team has had a huge weekend of basketball at home, winning two games across Saturday and Sunday.
They took on Blackburn, which was a second v third matchup and were good enough to beat them by 15 points, a huge win against a team they would have every chance of playing in the playoffs.
Although trailing at the first break, they took over in the remaining three terms, thanks to the efforts of Carley Cranston who dropped 24 points with help from Emily Attard and Ranika Guyton.
They then backed it up on the following day, against Mornington away from home at 12.30pm and took that game by 11 points.
Guyton was again solid with another 19 points, but captain Emmie Gardiner had one of her best outings for the season, dropping 23 points and 19 rebounds.
The women’s team have now finished the season, sitting in third spot on the ladder, eagerly waiting to see who they play in the following weeks.
Unfortunately it was the complete opposite for the men’s team.
They played their final game of the season against Warragul at home on Saturday night and lost by nine points.
It was all even at the final break of the game, but Warragul were too good when it mattered most, scoring nine more points than the Panthers in the final term to secure the victory.
The men’s team finished second last, thanks to wins earlier in the season against last-placed Collingwood, who actually had a better percentage then the Panthers.
A disappointing season for the team, but now all eyes will rest on the women, who look to fight for the division two women’s title and seek promotion.
