Tallarook defeated Eastern Hill in Saturday’s Seymour District Cricket Association, SDCA, grand final, 4/108 (40) to 8/107 (45).

The loss was the first of the season for Eastern Hill who were coming into the final undefeated.

Tallarook captain Lachlan Watts said the side felt ‘pretty confident going in’.

“We had a couple of pretty heavy losses early in the year to them, but I think we were still confident in our personnel,” he said.

“I think we beat the same side pretty much in last year’s final, so we backed ourselves and I guess we were confident enough.

“Again, we were probably the underdog going into the finals, and when you’re the underdog you don’t have much to lose.”

OVER THE LINE: Tallarook’s Thomas Archibald celebrates as he makes the winning run.

Eastern Hill elected to bat and the ‘Rook took an early wicket, sending Dallas Bergowicz out for a duck with the Eagles 1/2.

An 18-run effort by Eastern Hill before the next wicket gave the side some momentum.

Watts bowled and caught Eastern Hill’s leading run scorer for the day Benjamin Bryant on 38 runs leaving the Eagles 6/75.

Two more wickets had the Eagles 8/107 at the end of the innings.

Tallarook had a strong start making 3/50 before Andrew Dundon went out for a golden duck.

However, the remaining batsmen remained immovable at the crease, chasing down the Eagles as the ‘Rook took the win.

Tallarook’s Leigh Irving received player of the match.

Watts said he was pretty happy with the efforts across the board.

“I feel like we had pretty good control of the game for most of the day, except for probably half a dozen overs when we were batting,” he said.

Watts described the season as a ‘bit of a rollercoaster’.

“It was a bit up and down. We got thumped a couple of times by Eastern Hill which you don’t like to happen too many times,” he said.

‘Rook’s Andrew Dundon said he was ‘absolutely stoked’ with the end of the season.

“The boys worked hard for the last couple of weeks at training as well. Couldn’t be prouder of the boys for standing up today when the time counted,” he said.
