Broadford Golf Club last week hosted Seymour District Darts Association’s, SDDA, 2023 Summer Competition grand finals to round out an action-packed season.
With the finalists supported by a strong crowd of spectators, three teams emerged victorious – Badass, Golf Club Aces and Royal Jacaranda, from divisions one, two and three respectively.
In division one Badass squared off against old nemesis The Snipers in a replay of last season’s A Grade final.
The Snipers got off to a better start than last time and could have maintained the lead heading into the second half if not for some nervous double trouble.
With the scores at 4-3 Badass’ way heading into the reverse singles, the pressure was mounting and despite the Alexandra team’s best efforts, Badass found the treble and the doubles to coast to a 6-3 victory that sealed their three-peat.

In division two the Golf Club Aces faced Pyalong Tigers; the game being played on one of the SDDA’s free-standing dart boards to negate any home ground advantage.
The higher-ranked Golf Club Aces took a narrow 4-3 advantage heading into the reverse singles and, in keeping the same playing order, held the higher ground, making it tough for the Tigers to claw the lead back.
Despite a strong effort from the Tigers, the Aces were able to take out the division two premiership with a 6-3 win – a fitting birthday present for the Aces’ number one ticket holder Lorraine Jones.

The Royal Rascals and Royal Jacaranda went toe-to-toe in the division three final and produced a memorable contest with the match going down to the final game of the night.
The Jacarandas got the jump early to record a 3-1 lead, however the more experienced Rascals slowly chipped away at the score with nearly every singles match going to a third leg tie breaker.
Both teams performed well when the game was on the line, with the Rascals’ Brendan Rogers nailing a single dart bull finish to break the tie, while in the next game Jacaranda’s Cory Ritchie hit a handy combination finish to level the scores.
With the scores sitting all-square going into the final game of the night, the pressure was building on both teams before the Jacarandas were able to secure the 6-5 victory in their first ever grand final.
The SDDA thanked Broadford Golf Club for hosting the event, with special thanks to Evie Hastie, Cherie Spencer and Leanne Paice.
