AusNet is undertaking a series of key projects and programs to upgrade the electricity network across Victoria, aiming to enhance capacity, support regional growth, and improve customer reliability.
Over the past 12 months, AusNet has invested heavily in network maintenance and safety measures. A total of $202 million has been spent on network maintenance, while an additional $68 million has been allocated to vegetation management to reduce risks associated with power outages and bushfires.
One of the major projects includes the construction of a new zone substation to service the City of Whittlesea and Mitchell Shire. This $18 million investment will provide additional network capacity to support the rapid growth in Kilmore and Wallan. The project will strengthen the reliability of the grid and enable more customer connections, ensuring that the expanding communities have a stable power supply.
In addition to this, AusNet is set to spend a further $8 million over the next two years on upgrading insulated conductors in bushfire-prone areas across the Mitchell Shire. This initiative is part of the company’s broader effort to enhance network resilience and safety in high-risk regions.
