On March 17, a Clean Up Australia Day event was organised by a dynamic group of Year 12 VCE VM and VPC Broadford Secondary College students, in collaboration with enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 students from Broadford Primary School.
Together, they worked to clean up litter from a large area in central Broadford. This initiative fostered a sense of camaraderie and environmental awareness among the participating schools and received support from local businesses.
With generous assistance from local firms, the project was a success. Nestlé and Seymour Bunnings donated essential equipment, including cleaning supplies and refreshments to keep the participants energised throughout the day.
The students were divided into teams, each with a senior student in charge, and assigned different areas of the town to clean. Armed with gloves, bags, and a collective sense of responsibility, they worked diligently to remove litter and rubbish from public spaces.

The day was well received by both students and teachers.
“It was a fun and productive day,” said one Year 12 student.
Broadford Primary School teacher Ms Edwards praised the event’s organisation.
“It ran as smoothly as a well-oiled machine,” she said.
Around 150 students participated in the clean-up, leaving a significant impact on the local area. After the effort, students were rewarded for their hard work, thanks to the generous funding from Nestlé and Bunnings.

This activity was not only a great way to involve local students, but also a valuable demonstration of teamwork and environmental stewardship.
