APPLICATIONS for this year’s Rheem Apprentice Plumber Grants are now open to Victorian apprentice plumbers or gas fitters.
For the second year in a row, and in keeping with Rheem’s commitment to support more up-and-coming Victorian apprentice plumbers in the progression of their careers, 20 grants of $3000 each will be on offer.
Recipients will receive $2000 to assist with their TAFE/RTO fees and textbooks, and $1000 to help build the essential trade toolbox.
Rheem 2024 recipient from Mernda, Lara Smyth, was one of seven female recipients chosen last year, and is a-soon-to-be second-generation plumber, after following in the footsteps of both her mother and father. She received a $3000 Rheem grant towards furthering her education and building her toolbox, and is now in the second year of her apprenticeship.
“[My mother] often talks about how I’m proof of the ripple effect that happens when a woman is not only given the opportunity to thrive in the construction industry, but is also shown support by the industry,” she said.
“Being named as a recipient not only provides me with the chance to thrive, but demonstrates the support and encouragement to other females, which makes all the difference.”
Both Lara and her mother work in women’s not-for-profit housing to ensure women from domestic violence backgrounds can opt for female plumbers to work in their homes, easing anxiety.
Applications close Sunday, April 27, 2025. For more information, visit www.rheem.com.au/apprentice.
