Whittlesea Football Netball Club will be the beneficiary of funding if the Albanese Labor Government is re-elected in next month’s federal election, with $185,000 promised towards upgrades.

The funding commitment would mean new lights would be installed at the Whittlesea Showgrounds, while the indoor netball courts in the Chandler Pavilion would be resurfaced.

With the club boasting 16 football teams and five netball teams in 2024, the funding would allow the club to better facilitate training sessions for its senior and junior footballers and netballers.

Member for McEwen, Rob Mitchell, said it would allow the Eagles to thrive.

“This funding will give the Eagles every opportunity to grow and strengthen as a club,” he said.

“Sport is a huge part of our community in Whittlesea and these upgrades to the lighting and netball facilities will be a gamechanger for the club.

“The Albanese Labor Government is supporting women’s sport, and we are working to remedy the massive shortage of netball courts throughout the northern suburbs, so players are able to train and play out of the weather all year round.

“This funding will provide a safer environment for all players, spectators and officials.”

Whittlesea FNC president Luke Fraumano said the funding would be a big boost for the club.

“The members and sponsors of the Whittlesea Football Netball Club cannot thank Mr Mitchell enough for listening to us and advocating for this election commitment,” he said.

“This will make a world of difference to our club, the players and especially our netballers.”

The Eagles enjoyed a bevy of strong results across last weekend, which included the senior men’s team taking a 27-point victory over Watsonia to move to 2-0 for the division two season.
