SECTIONS of the Hume Freeway will close to traffic at times over the next five weeks, as crews conduct vital maintenance works across a 20 km stretch between the M80 Ring Road and Kalkallo.

Works were expected to commence on the evening of Monday, April 7, with lane closures on some nights, while other nights will require full freeway carriageway closures.

Crews will work at night only, from 9pm to 5am Sunday to Thursday, to minimise the disruption to traffic. No work will take place over the Easter or ANZAC Day long weekends.

Full freeway closures requiring detours began yesterday (April 14) and are expected to be around 15 nights in total.

During these closures, traffic will detour via the Hume Highway/Sydney Road to the west or Epping Road to the east.

Motorists are asked to obey the 40km/h speed limit when driving near road workers and to allow up to 20 minutes extra for their journey.

These works are heavily dependent on favourable weather conditions, so dates and times may change.
