Several Catholic schools received funding under the State Government to upgrade classrooms and build new facilities, including in Kilmore, Wallan, and Doreen.
The projects are being delivered through the Catholic stream of the State Government’s Building Fund for Non-Government Schools, which helps schools upgrade and expand their facilities, ensuring families have the best learning environments for their children.
The State Government committed $450 million in the 2023–24 State Budget to build and upgrade low-fee Catholic and independent schools across the state.
Member for Yan Yean Lauren Kathage recently visited Our Lady of the Way Catholic Primary School in Wallan East to celebrate the school receiving funding towards the school’s next build.
Among the funded projects, $1 million in funding will assist Our Lady of the Way in the construction of a new multipurpose hall, performing arts and visual arts learning spaces, kitchen, and amenities.
Marymede Catholic College in Doreen will also receive $6 million towards the construction of eight general learning areas, learning resource centre, information technology centre, careers and pathways centre, canteen, student wellbeing and counselling centre, amenities, campus administration centre and associated spaces.
Both principles of each school showed Ms Kathage how the new buildings and classrooms will fit into the campuses.
Ms Kathage said the funding would support greater education.
“Our Lady of the Way is a fantastic and popular local school, and this project will mean their students have great facilities to support a great education,” she said.
Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes made a visit to Kilmore’s St Patrick’s Primary School to share news that the school will receive $3.6 million to help build four new classrooms, including a breakout space and amenities to increase its capacity to meet enrolment demands.
Ms Symes said it was an honour to deliver the news at the school.
“It was wonderful to be able to visit St Pat’s this week and share the news. Congratulations to Principal Michael and the team for all their hard work in securing this funding,” she said.
St Mary’s College in Seymour will also receive $3.6 million to upgrade the science building and expand capacity to meet enrolment demands.
