Seniors across the City of Whittlesea attended Council’s Ageing Well Expo on Wednesday – giving services and expert advice on staying safe and living independently in your own home.
The expo, which took place at Plenty Ranges Art and Convention Centre in South Morang, featured more than 50 service providers specialising in positive healthy living, as well as expert-led information sessions covering crucial topics such as retirement planning, scam awareness, and much more.
Visitors were also entertained by the Legends of Brass throughout the day.
City of Whittlesea Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson said the event highlighted council’s commitment to promoting healthy ageing.
“The Ageing Well Expo reflects our dedication to ensuring that our older residents have access to resources and support on how to stay safe and live well as we age,” she said.
This year’s theme, ‘Together, we can stop elder abuse’, aligns with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, observed annually on June 15.
Elder abuse can happen in different ways, including financial, emotional, physical, and neglect.
Raising awareness of this important issue, seniors from the City of Whittlesea gathered to participate in the Warm Safe Home project – making small cardboard house models and decorating them to present what a warm, safe home means to them.
The special creations were showcased at the Ageing Well Expo, along with a free information session by Seniors Rights Victoria.
