SEYMOUR’S Eastern Lions Kart Club will be the place to be for all of Australia’s best karting stars as the track hosts the Penrite Australian Kart Championships from September 4-6.
It is a championship which has been the proving ground of Formula One star Oscar Piastri, as well as many of Australia’s best Supercars drivers.
There will be somewhat of a local variety, with many of Shepparton’s best racers, including 13-year-old Jensen Damaschino, brothers Will and Zac Thompson and youngster Mason Martin making the short trip.
Over 350 drivers will compete from every state in Australia, as well as Singapore and Malaysia, with ages ranging from 7-62.
It is the largest and most respected kart championship in the southern hemisphere. Speaking to how good the Seymour track is, it will be the fifth time the championship has visited Seymour in 11 years.
There will be eight classes running, ranging from Cadet 9 in 60cc karts to KZ2 in 125cc karts – ones that can go up to 140 kilometres per hour.
Setup day will be held on Thursday, September 3, with practice getting underway on the following day. Qualifying will be held on the Saturday, and all races will be held on the Sunday.
Live coverage will also be held on television, with 7+ hosting coverage on Saturday and Sunday.
