Seymour Football Club had a bye this week and the break gave the team the opportunity to reflect on their opening round.
The Lions got off to a bit of a wayward start in front of the goals before putting together some great footy in the second and third quarters.
Tom Maloney showed why he’s going to be a player to watch this season, combing well with the midfield group. Jack Murphy and Ben Rigoni picked up where they left off in 2023, alongside Ricky Schraven.
Riley Mason provided a great target up forward, incredibly well supported by Lewis Lubeck and Will Le Deux. Curtis Powell also stepped up from the U18’s with none of them looking out of place.
Momentum proved hard to hold onto in the last quarter against a hard-working Tatura outfit. In a nail-biting finish, Tatura managed to snatch the points with a great goal after the siren to come out winners 75 to 72.
Assistant Coach, Jack Murphy said that the side entered round one with such an inexperienced side, but a side that was full on energy and confidence.
“We got off to a wayward start, missing our chance to capitalise on the Tatura’s turnover, however, Riley Mason and Lewis Lubeck provided us some great opportunities down forward,” he said.
“Tight losses like that often reveal the character of teams, and we will be a side to cop it on the chin, learn and move forward,” Murphy added.
Next weekend Seymour heads to Shepparton to take on the Swans.
