THE management of Lancefield Park was discussed at the latest Macedon Ranges Council meeting last Wednesday night.

It was important for the council to find a pathway forward for a carefully managed topic within the councillors.

Councillor Daniel Young was happy that the park was in discussions and thinks it’s getting closer and closer towards some upgrades.

“The Lancefield community should be very excited that this is on the radar.

“I think it’s the perfect time to be advocating to their local member ahead of the state election to get some funding because if the council does want to have a place in this we can provide some very good ongoing management resources.

“But there’s certainly going to have to be some commitment from the state government for some capital works to bring it up to scratch.” Cr Young said.

Mayor Councillor Kate Kendall was super impressed with the current volunteers who are deeply committed to improving their local facilities.

She had her fears about the motion that was proposed saying it was more of a procrastination instead of an action.

“It doesn’t commit council to supporting Lancefield Park, It doesn’t commit any funding, it doesn’t commit council to becoming the committee of management and it doesn’t bring a time frame for a decision,” Cr Kendall said.

“I don’t believe we should delay action and create the impression that progress is being made when there’ s no clear commitment attached to it.”

Cr Kendall was very strong in saying that she’d prefer funding and time to be spent actually see practical projects on the grounds.

“Let’s actually do stuff, let’s actually fund stuff.” she said.

But many of the other councillors disagreed prompting that the report was essential to the future of the park and an important step to take.

The Lancefield Park is used for many teams and sports across the precinct with the football, netball, tennis, bowls and more who use the grounds as their home.

Discussions of the state government’s volunteers that take care of the land could soon have meetings with council about what the next steps are for the park.
