CELEBRATIONS were held for the Lancefield and Romsey Community Bank, marking its 25th birthday with strong community support at the Lancefield and District Farmers’ Market on May 23.
The event drew community members to vote and determine who would receive a $2500 donation from the bank.
Thirteen groups from the community entered the prize pool to go in the running for the money.
The voters all named their favourite group and it was clear that the Romsey Lancefield United Basketball Club would receive the cash.
The event coincided with the anniversary of the bank’s opening back in 2001 after a small group of local people raised $400k from 270 shareholders to bring banking back to Lancefield following an eight-year absence.
The bank now serves over 4800 people managing over $300 million and has returned more then $3.9 million to the community through grants, sponsorships, scholarships and donations.
Chair of Lancefield and Romsey Community Bank, Suzie Ewart said the birthday activation captured exactly what the past 25 years have been about.
“Twenty-five years ago, a small group of local people had a big idea. They believed in this community enough to invest in it.”
“On Saturday, the community voted on how to invest that back. When you bank with us, your money stays here – it funds the projects our community cares about, supports local jobs, and pays dividends to local shareholders. That is why banking locally matters, and days like Saturday are why we do what we do.”
Community Bank Lancefield and Romsey are one of more then 300 branches operating under the Community Bendigo Bank model.
All community investment made by the bank is funded by profits generated when customers choose to bank with the Lancefield and Romsey branches, ensuring decisions deliver local results.
